Think about a speech, song, or message that has inspired or motivated you. How did the speaker or writer use language to make an impact? Connect your experience to at least one rhetorical device you identified in Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech.

Prompt: Think about a speech, song, or message that has inspired or motivated you. How did the speaker or writer use language to make an impact? Connect your experience to at least one rhetorical device you identified in Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech.

Prompt Response: A message that has motivated me is "Strike first, strike hard, no mercy" from Cobra Kai. The speaker, Johnny Lawrence, uses similar language in all three statements to drive the motto into the students. This phrase has helped me because, even if it looks like I'm going to win something for sure, I know it's not over until it's over, so I never stop trying. For example, in my lacrosse game last weekend, we didn't stop playing at halftime when we were winning 7-0. This connects to Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech because he uses repetition when he says, "We will never be satisfied until...," which is similar to how I never stop until something is over.

Summary: Today in class, we identified rhetorical devices in Dr. King's "I Have a Dream" speech.

Reflection: There were plenty of rhetorical devices in this speech, so I don't think I'll ever need to rely on pathos, ethos, or logos when writing my rhetorical analysis essay.
